Agios Kirykos

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Agios Kirykos is a municipality on the island of Icaria, Samos Prefecture, Greece. It had a population of 3,243 residents in 2001. Icaria, whose previous name was Doliche is a Greek island 10 nautical miles or 19 kilometers, south-west of Samos. It derived its name from Icarus, the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who fell into the sea nearby. It is one of the middle islands of the northern Aegean, 660 square kilometers or 255 square miles in area with 102 miles or 160 kilometers of coastline and a population of about 7,000 inhabitants. Ikaria has a tradition in the production of strong red wine. Many parts of the island are covered by large bushes, especially ravines, making the landscape lush with green.

Ikaria has been inhabited since at least 7000 B.C., Before Christ. when it was populated by the Neolithic pre-Hellenic people that Greeks called Pelasgians. Around 750 B.C. Greeks from Miletus colonized Ikaria establishing a settlement in the area of present day Campos, which they called Oenoe for its wine. Samos Prefecture Greek consists of the islands of Samos, Ikaria and the smaller islands of Fournoi Korseon. Its capital and main passenger port is the town of Vathy, also called Samos. The prefecture's main products include the famous sweet Samian wine, renowned since the times of classical antiquity and the excellent virgin olive oil. These two products consist the main Samian exported crops.
