Agios Georgios (Rio), Greece

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Agios Georgios is Greek for the name Saint George. It is a quarter of the community of Rio, a suburban town north of Patras, Greece. Its area is just a width of about 1 kilometer and by about 100 meters. It has an area of about 1,200 square kilometers. Its neighboring places are Rio along with the highway to the west, Kastritsi to the northeast and it is accessed to the northern part of the Panachaicus, the university and the hospital to the east and the river to the south. It is located 8 km northeast of Patras. The quarter is passed by the old highway. It has a population of about 500 to 800 residents and it lies situated at an elevation of about 20 meters above sea level. This quarter of Rio has a church and a small square. Farming used to dominate the lands east of the community. But when a university and a hospital came over, that part of the land was lost. The interchange with the toll highway is to the north.

In late 3rd to early 4th century of Christian hagiography Saint George was a soldier of the Roman Empire who was venerated as a Christian martyr. Saint George is the most venerated saint in Orthodox Christianity.
