Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, which is to the west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean, including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
Asele municipality is a Swedish municipality in Vasterbotten County. It is located to the south of the province of Lapland in northern Sweden. The population is 3,375 but decreases annually, and the municipality is sparsely populated with less than 1 inhabitant per square kilometer. The municipal seat is in the town Asele with 1,800 inhabitants at 313 meters height. The town has an area of 4,276 square kilometer.
The first Swedish settlement in Asele was in Gafsele in south of Asele. The settlers were Nils Andersson and his wife Brita. They came from Finland in 1674, trying to avoid the war with Russia. Fredrika was a parish in the municipality. It was created in 1799 and was named in honor of Queen Frederica Dorothea Wilhelmina of Sweden. Other nearby parishes were named Dorotea and Vilhelmina, but Asele refused to take any of these names, as they were very proud of themselves and the town.
Geographically, the Angerman River flows from Vilhelmina through Asele municipality and many electric powerstations are built around it. The town Asele is located in the middle of the municipality. It has a nice looking church, a small historical museum and a golf course.
Asele is a beautiful town. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Europe, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
