Chatelet is a Belgian city located in the Walloon province of Hainaut. In 2006, the population of the city was 35,621 and an area of 27.03 square kilometers which gives a population density of 1,318 inhabitants per square kilometers. Chatelet was a long established independent city prior to its fusion with the other entities.
 
The Walloon Region is the mainly French-speaking region that constitutes one of the three federal regions of Belgium, with its capital at Namur. Its official languages are French and German. The Walloon Region occupies the southern part of Belgium and it has an area of 16844 square kilometers.
