Haparanda




Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
 
Haparanda Municipality is a Swedish municipality in Norrbotten County, in northern Sweden. Its seat is in the town Haparanda with 4,700 inhabitants. According to the 2005 census, population was 10,208, density is 11 per square kilometers, and area is 927 square kilometers.
 
In Sweden, Haparanda borders the municipalities of Overtornea to the north and Kalix to the west. Haparanda is located on the western side of where the Torne River discharges into the Gulf of Bothnia. On the other side of the river lies the Finnish town Tornio. Haparanda and Tornio have a treaty of twin towering, and call themselves EuroCity.
 
Although Haparanda has a boat harbour, it is not accesible for larger vessels and is not, as often thought, the Baltic Sea's northernmost port, that honor most probably belonging to Tore further west on the Swedish coast.
 
Haparanda is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in Europe worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of Europe.
