Evdilos
Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, which is to the west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean, including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
Evdilos is a town in the northern part of Icaria, which is about 40 kilometers to the northwest of Agios Kirykos in the Eastern Aegean Sea. It is a new seaside settlement built after 1830, when piracy was completely stamped out on the island.
Evdilos was the first capital of the island. The name means visible and freely rendered open horizon. Today, it is the second port and the center of northern, central and western Ikaria. It forms the community of Evdilos, along with other settlements. It has about 2,400 permanent inhabitants.
The picturesque small port, the pier with the old mansions and narrow roads, the paved steps and the traditional and modern houses ornamented with many flowers forms an architecturally interesting village. It reveals the artistic feeling of the inhabitants and the love for their land. Evdilos may be the most traditional settlement of Ikaria architecturally. Evdilos is also an ideal base for wonderful excursions into the Ikarian countryside.There is also a fine beach located just outside of Evdilos.
Evdilos is a beautiful place. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Europe, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
