Funchal
Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. Funchal, population approximately 140,000, is the capital of the Madeira Islands of Portugal. Funchal is also the largest city on the islands and is ranked after Camara de Lobos and Machico in area. It was founded by Joao Goncalves Zarco in 1421 and was elevated to city by King Manuel I in 1508. the population of Funchal was 100,847 with an area of 75.7 square kilometers. And it’s population density was 1,332 per square kilometers.
In the 16th century Funchal was important as a stopping place between the Indies and the New World, and was known as a wealthy place. It was also the port for Madeiran sugar and wine. Funchal hosted the Funchal Island Tournament in 1981 with Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama of the Brazilian League. Between 1892 and 1905, Portugal issued postage stamps inscribed Funchal, but then reverted to the stamps of Madeira.
Funchal is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes. Europe is a beautiful continent.
