Simrishamn

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea.

Simrishamn is one of the exclusive tourist destinations located in Europe. It is a municipality in Skane in southern Sweden where the Scania town Simrishamn is seat. The population of the Simrishamn municipality according to the 2005 census revealed to be 19,470 inhabitants. The total land area of the city is 394 square kilometers.

The landscape that lies to the south and west of Simrishamn is mainly open and very flat farmland. To the north of Simrishamn the landscape is broken up by small forests and gently sloping hills. The coastline directly south and north of Simrishamn is stony to a great degree, but turns into broad beaches with white sand further away.

One of the picturesque small village in Simrishamn municipality is Kivik, which is located at about 15 kilometers from north. Kivik is famous for its market which takes place on the third Wednesday in July. This market, with a medieval history, is one of the three main traditional markets in Skane and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Recent investments attracted by the climate, soil, and altitude combination have transformed the Simrishamn area, making it one of the most important regions. Even though Simrishamn meant the partial loss of its tourist profile due to urbanization, some features of its past times of splendor still remain, with hotels and hostelries that are swarmed by thousands of visitors each year.
