Pyrgos, Elis
Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
Pyrgos is the capital of the Prefecture of Elis in Greece. It is named for a local tower. The city is located in the western part of the Peloponnese, in the middle of a plain in Ilia. It is 96 kilometers away from Patras via Greece Interstate 9, 320 kilometers from Athens, 144 kilometers from Tripoli. It is bypassed by GR-9/E-55 or GR-74 to its east. The town of Katakolo lies 12 kilometers to the west. Olympia is also nearby, as are Agios Georgios to the north and Lampeti to the east. The Alfeios River is about 4 kilometers to the south.
The population of Pyrgos is approximately 25,000 people, area is 170.9 square kilometers and population density is 204 per square kilometers. Pyrgos has one of the biggest squares in Greece with loads of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, hospital, hotels, and a large orthodox church. Traffic lights are now installed downtown. Its television stations are Cosmos and ORT, Olympiaki Radiophonio Teleorassi, lit. Its daily for the city is Patris.
