Austria: a Cradle of Art

Austria is a country located in the center of Europe; it is surrounded by Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany. Since 1920, it is a Federal Republic integrated by nine provinces. It is one of the smallest countries of Europe (83,857 km2) with a population close to the eight million inhabitants. It is also one of the most attractive destinations for the tourist, both in winter and in summer, and the options that this country has to offer are innumerable in either cultural, ecological, adventure or gastronomic tourism.

The official language of the country is German, although in many tourist places English is also spoken. In winter, the weather in Austria is cold, but in summer, although warm, it does not reach high temperatures.

The capital city of Austria is Viena. It is a city that has a special charm. It has fancy buildings, monuments, wide avenues, palaces, and beautiful gardens. Among the various interesting monuments of this city, it is worth mentioning the gothic Cathedral of San Esteban, important works of modern art such as the Hundertwasserhaus and the KunstHausWien.

Other city to visit is Salzburgo, a baroque city that rises in the shores of the Salzach River. It owes its world fame to its architecture and the fact that it was the birthplace of Wolfang Amadeus Mozart in 1756.
