Ekeren

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea.

Ekeren is an exclusive tourist destination located in Europe. It is a northern suburb of Antwerp, Belgium. Ekeren is also known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. Ekeren boasts many traces of its colonial past and enjoys peaceful lifestyle sheltered from the accelerated pace of the large cities.

According to the earliest documentary, Ekeren was first mentioned in 1155, as Hecerna. Although Ekeren is a suburb of the city of Antwerp, it used to be a distinct municipality with its own town hall, mayor, and city council. When Belgian local governments were reorganized in 1983, most of Ekeren was made part of Antwerp, together with seven other municipalities adjoining to the city.

Ekeren is home to the Jozef Pauly municipal academy for music and word, which has around 2000 pupils as of 2004. The academy hosts many musical ensembles. It should be noted that municipal music academies in Belgium are distinct from the public educational system.

Like some of its sister cities and towns, Ekeren is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of the mountains, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important touristic attractions in Europe.
