Drama, Greece




Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
 
Drama is a town in northeastern Greece in Europe. Drama is the capital of the prefecture of Drama. The Drama prefecture is part of the East Macedonia and Thrace periphery. In the Roman era, Drama was known as Dravescus, and it had been a trade center and a military camp on the Roman Via Egnatia. Drama is endowed with rich water resources and according to some sources at the same site during ancient times there was a town named Hydrama to which Drama owes its name.
 
The economy of the modern-day Drama area had heavily relied upon the local paper and textile-clothing industries during the previous years. However, these industries have either closed down or moved across the border to Bulgaria, with a devastating impact on the local community's economy and employment. Other sources of income of the town include agriculture, consisting mainly of tobacco plantations, small-scale mining and forest industry. Drama has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, a post office, a sporting centre, a train station, and squares.
 
There is a modern ski resort on Mount Falakro. Drama also hosts an annual short film festival. There is a street named Armen, named after the hero of Macedonian fight  Armen Kouptsios, from Volakas. The Harlem Globetrobbers has visited Greece during their tour on November 2006 after Athens and participated in the basketball stadium in the city, it is one of the first time that an event including concert with superstars outside Greece ever to participate in a smaller city.
 
Drama is a city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. Drama is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
