Graz

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Graz is the second-largest city in Austria after Vienna and the capital of the federal state of Styria. It has a long tradition as a student city, with six universities with over 40,000 students. The population of the city was 248,146, area is 127.58 square kilometers, and population density 1,773 per square kilometers.

The oldest settlement on the ground of the modern city of Graz dates back to the Copper Age. However, there is no historical continuity of a settlement before the Middle Ages. The name of the city, and some archeological finds point to the erection of a small castle by South Slavic people, which in time became a heavily defended fortification. Gradec literally means small castle in South Slavic languages. The German name Graz was first used in 1128, and during this time dukes under Babenberg rule made the town into an important commercial center.

An extensive public transportation network makes Graz an easy city to navigate without a car. The city has a comprehensive bus network, complementing a tram network consisting of eight lines, two of which run from the train station to the old town before branching out. Tickets are valid on trams, buses, and the Schlobberg funicular railway and on suburban rail services within zone 101 which includes the airport.

A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Graz is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
