Hofors

Hofors is a Swedish municipality in Gastrikland, in east central Sweden. The municipality covers and area of 411.0 square kilometers with a total population of 10624 in 5321 is male and 5303 female, with a population density of 26 inhabitants per square kilometers. The town of Hofors expanded around an iron industry in the 17th century, which eventually developed into one of Sweden's foremost ironworks. The municipality was formed in 1925, with its current borders from the 1970s. The coat of arms stem from 1968, and is derived from a map from 1539, where the town Hofors was surrounded by iron mines.
