Evora




Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, which is to the west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean, including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
 
Evora is a city and municipality in Portugal with a total area of 1,307.0 square kilometer and a total population of 55,619 inhabitants. It is the seat of the district of Evora and capital of the Alentejo region. The municipality is composed of 19 parishes, and is located in the District of Evora.
 
Evora is situated in Alentejo which is to the south of Portugal. It is the chief city of the district. The seat of the municipality in the city of Evora is composed by the parishes of Santo Antao, Sao Mamede and Se e Sao Pedro in the historical centre. The urban parishes of Bacelo, Horta das Figueiras, Malagueira and Senhora da Saude are outside the ancient city walls where most of the population resides. The remaining parishes in the municipality are rural or suburban and do not form part of the city for statistic purposes.
 
The Alentejo Province is a region of wide plains to the south of the Tagus River. In the heart of this region, at a distance of 130 kilometer from Lisbon, lies the city of Evora. Evora was ranked first in a study concerning competitiveness of the 18 Portuguese district capitals, according to a study made by Minho University economic researchers and published in Publico newspaper on 30th September 2006.

Evora is place with unique beauty. It is developing rapidly. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Europe, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
