Foinikas is a municipality in the Rethymno Prefecture, Crete, Greece. It had population of 3,946 in the year 2001. The seat of the municipality is in Sellia. Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic, is a country in south-eastern Europe, situated on the southern end of the Balkan peninsula. It is bordered by Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania to the north and by Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea lies to the east of mainland Greece, while the Ionian Sea lies to the west.
 
Rethymno is a prefecture in the island of Crete. Its capital is the city of Rethymno. Today its main income is tourism. The countryside of the prefecture is also based economically on agriculture and herding. Three other notable towns in the Rethymno prefecture are Plakias, Spili and Agia Galini.

Foinikas is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
