Galaxidi




Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Galaxidi, is a town and a municipality located in the southern part of the prefecture of Phokida. It is located about 10 kilometers from South of Itea and about 30 kilometers from South of Amfissa, South of Lamia, about 25 kilometers from South West of Delphi, WSW of Livadeia and East of Nafpaktos, the Rio Antirio Bridge. The population of Galaxidi was 3,030 in the year 2001.

Municipality of Galaxidi also consists of nearby villages Ayioi Pantes, Penteoria and Vounihora. The view of Itea and the small peninsula as well as the western part of Parnassus can be seen. The Peloponnese can rarely be seen in the south. Much of the land are bushy, grassy or rocky and are covered with mountains. Maritime Museum of Galaxidi is a museum which includes the Galaxidi Chronicle which was published by Sathas in 1865.

Galaxidi is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
