Kerkini

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains.

Kerkini is an exclusive tourist destination located in Europe. It is a municipality in the Serres prefecture of Greece and is named after the Kerkini mountain range. The city has a total population of 10,037 inhabitants as of 2001 census. The growth of population is the direct consequence of the leisure facilities available in Kerkini that are much greater than in other town of similar size.

Greece, where Kerkini is situated, is officially known as Hellenic Republic. It is a country in south-eastern Europe, situated on the southern end of the Balkan peninsula. It is bordered by Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania to the north and by Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea lies to the east of mainland Greece while the Ionian Sea lies to the west. Greece lies at the juncture of Europe, Asia and Africa. It is heir to the heritages of classical Greece, the Byzantine Empire, and nearly four centuries of Ottoman rule.

Like some of its sister cities and towns, Kerkini is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of the mountains, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important touristic attractions in Europe.
