Kicevo

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains.

Kicevo is an exclusive tourist destination located in Europe. It is a city in the western part of the Republic of Macedonia. According to the last census data from 2002, the Kicevo municipality listed a total population of 30,138 inhabitants. Located in a valley in the south-eastern slopes of Mount Bistra, between the cities of Ohrid and Gostivar in western Macedonia, Kicevo has a total area of 48 square kilometers.

Kicevo was first mentioned in one of the documents of the Byzantine emperor Basil II in 1018, and also mentioned by the Ohrid archbishop Theophilact in XI century. When the region was occupied by the Ottoman Empire, Kicevo was turned into the military and administrative center of the region. The activities of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization in the region of Kicevo were initiated by the priest Josif from the monastery of Bogorodica Precista.

Like some of its sister cities and towns, Kicevo is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of the mountains, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important touristic attractions in Europe.
