Gnesta is a Municipality in Sodermanland County, in central Sweden. Its seat is in Gnesta with some 5,000 inhabitants. the municipality Gnesta was created quite recently in the 1990s. It is in the middle of the cultural Sormland province. Although it only has around 10,000 permanent inhabitants, the population increases substantially in the summer due to the many summer houses.
 
Communcations are good, the commuting train north-east to Stockholm takes about an hour. Industry-wise, Gnesta mostly has small companies with few employed. Gnesta has two sister cities both with around 6,000 inhabitants are Saulkrasti, Latvia, Sundsore Municipality, Denmark. The local branch of Vansterpartiet, a minority party in the Gnesta municipal assembly, has broken ties with the mother organization to form a party of their own, Vänsterdemokraterna.

It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
