Kocani
Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
Kocani the city of rice, is only 120 kilometers away from Skopje, situated in the Eastern part of the Republic of Macedonia, Europe. More precisely it spreads across the Northern side of the Kocani valley, along the banks of the Kocani River, right where it leaves the mountain slopes and flows through the valley. The town is 350 to 450 meters above sea level. Kocani spreads over an area of 18,6 square kilometers and has population of 26,364 inhabitants, which makes it the third regional center in the Eastern part of the country.
It has a mild-continental climate, influenced by altered Mediterranean climate, which penetrates along the river Bregalnica. Archaeological finds in the town itself have revealed remains of a settlement here in the Roman and Byzantine periods. During the 18th and in the early 19th century, the town growth rate was stagnated. It was only around 1878 that the population began to rise, at which time it had about 450 to 500 households.
Numerous cultural and historical monuments, from ancient times to the middle ages, can be found in the vicinity of Kocani. Monastery complexes in the nearby villages Morodviz and Pantelej are world famous both for their architecture and unique frescoes. Today Kocani is a modern town with planned infrastructure, avenues, many modern buildings and blocks of flats, a shopping center, a park and a newly built industrial zone.
Kocani enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
