Konstantia

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, to the west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean, including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Konstantia is located roughly about five kilometers from Exaplatanos in the road to Foustani and in the altitude of 180 meters. Konstantia is a greek village under the authority of Exaplatanos municipality. In 1992, in the south of the village an ancient cemetery was found dating from the Iron age that is from 1100 to 700 BC. The cemetery consists of almost 40 graves. It is in the side of an ancient road that crosses west Paiko and connects Almopia with Bottiaio. To the east of the cemetery some remains of an old settlement were saved. The discoveries from the interior of graves, departments of vessels, cupreous jewels and iron daggers allowed the chronology of the findings at around 1100 to 700 BC.

German sightseer Adolf Struck in 1898 presented Konstantia as a big village with 300 houses and two panes, inhabited exclusively from Pomaks. In 1920, the village numbered 1197 residents exclusively Muslim. Before the Balkan war the village was known as Kosteloyp and was renamed Konstantia in 1925. After the great ethnic exchange and installation of greek refugees the population reached 1144 in 1940. In the last demographic count of 2001, 759 residents where counted. Konstantia is a beautiful village. It is growing steadily. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Europe, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
