Sifnos

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Sifnos is an island in the Cyclades complex in Greece. The town is also known as Apollonia. The population of Sifnos was 2,442 in the year 2001. Sifnos lies in the less touristed western half of the Cyclades between Serifos and Milos and is also located west of Delos and Paros and is about 130 kilometer from Piraeus and 130 kilometer from south of Athens. It has an area of 74 square kilometers and is 15 kilometers long and 7.5 kilometers wide. and a shoreline of 70 kilometer, with a permanent population of approximately 2000.

The island is reached on the ferries which run on the Piraeus Kythnos Serifos Sifnos Milos Kimolos line. There are also infrequent sailings to other islands in the Cyclades. Sifnos was very wealthy in ancient times, thanks to its gold and silver mines. Proof of this, is the treasury which the Siphnians built at Delphi in the 6th century Before Christ to house their offerings. However, it appears that something went wrong with the mines, either they were worked out or flooded by the sea we do not know which and their production ceased.

Siphnos has a few schools, a few lyceums, a church, a post office and a few squares. In ancient times, Siphnos's wealth was measured by the gold and silver it produced, in the last two centuries it can be measured by its cultural output. Due to the physiology of the island Sifnos has been traditionally the capital of pottery in the Aegean, with unique jars and pots that are a kind of trademark of the island.

Siphnos is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in Europe worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of Europe.
