Lagoa is one of Europe most popular destinations, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced. Lagoa is a municipality on the southwest-central part of Sao Miguel Island in the Azores. It has a population of 14,698. Lagoa is located east of Ponta Delgada and is linked with a road connecting Ponta Delgada, the western part of the island and Furnas, Povoacao and the eastern part of the island to the east and to the north especially areas that are away from the Atlantic Ocean.
 
The area of the municipality is 45.6 square kilometers with a population of 14,698, and a density of 322 per square kilometers. The mountains are to the east most of the mountains are covered with forests and are grassy in both lower and higher elevations. Sao Miguel Island nickname Green Island, is the largest and most populous of the Azores Islands. The island covers 759 square kilometers and has around 140,000 inhabitants.

The Azores are an archipelago of Portuguese islands in the Atlantic Ocean, about 1,500 kilometers from Lisbon and about 3,900 kilometers from the east coast of North America. The nine Azorean Islands extend for more than 600 kilometers, and lie in a northwest-southeast direction. The Azores are divided into 19 municipalities each municipality is further divided into parishes. The Azores have a total of 156 parishes.

Lagoa is also said to be as the town of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and pursue enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
