Laholm
Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Laholm municipality is one of Europe most popular destinations, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced. It is a Swedish municipality in Halland County, in southwest Sweden. The seat is located in Laholm. Geographically the town is located at the estuary of the River Lagan in a bay known as the Laholm Bay. Laholm is one of Sweden's oldest cities, and it is the oldest city in the province of Halland.
The area of the municipality is 888 square kilometers with a population of 22,955. The first charter was granted in the 13th century, in what was then Danish territory. During the wars between Sweden and Denmark in the 16th and 17th century, Laholm suffered, being burnt several times. Of interest is still the old street structure, intact from medieval times and the Laholm church from 1225.
The municipalities of Sweden represent the local level of self government in Sweden. The current 290 municipalities form sub-divisions to the 21 counties of Sweden. The basic regulation of Swedish municipalities can be found in the local government act of 1991. It specifies several responsibilities for the municipalities, and provides outlines for local government, such as the process for electing the municipal assembly. It also regulates a process through which any citizen can appeal the decisions of the local government to a county administrative court.
