Leuven
Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
Leuven listen is the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant in Flanders, Belgium. The municipality comprises the historical city of Leuven and the adjacent villages of Heverlee, Kessel-Lo, and a part of Korbeek-Lo, Wilsele and Wijgmaal. The population of the city was 90,706, area is 56.63 square kilometers, and density 1601.73 per square kilometers.
The first mention of Leuven goes back to 891 ,when a Viking army was defeated by the German emperor Arnulf of Carinthia. According to the city legend, its red-white-red colours depict the blood-stained shores of the river Dijle after this battle. Situated at this river and nearby the stronghold of the Dukes of Brabant, Leuven became the most important centre of trade in the duchy between the 11th and the 14th century. A token of its former importance as a centre of cloth manufacture, is nicely reflected in the typical Leuven linen cloth, known in late 14-15th century texts as lewyn .
Leuven is well known for its summer rock festival Marktrock. The main football club of the municipality is Oud-Heverlee Leuven, the successor of K. Stade Leuven. Leuven also has some orchestras, like the famous Arenberg Orchestra.
Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Leuven enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
