Linkoping

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Linkoping Municipality is a Swedish municipality in Ostergotland County in southern Sweden. Its seat is in the city Linköping, with 94,000 inhabitants. With a total population of 137,000 in 2004, the municipality is Sweden's fifth most populated. Area is 1,435.80 square kilometers, and density is 96.2 per square kilometers.

The municipality borders in the west to Motala, and clockwise to Finspang, Norrkoping, Atvidaberg, Kinda, and Mjolby. Currently, the municipality is ruled by a coalition of the Social Democrats and the Centre Party. The highest official is Lena Micko, a Social Democrat. Linkoping is one of the few municipalities which name the speaker of the assembly mayor. Currently, this position is held by Eva Joelsson, also a Social Democrat. The largest opposition party is the Moderate Party, led in Linkoping by Paul Lindvall.

Like some of its sister municipalities and towns, Linkoping is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in Europe.
