Platy, Greece

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Platy is a place in Greece, in the east-southeast part of the Imathia Prefecture. It was founded in 1924 by Greek refugees from Turkey after the disaster of Asia Minor. They came from the villages of Farassa area, in Kappadokia region, after many stops during their voyage till their final destination, which was Plati.

Until 1924 there was a small village but with a strategic position due to its railway station. It is 35 kilometers from Veria, 40 from Thessaloniki and 512 from Athens. Platy remained a small village with 2500 inhabitants but with very important role in the area of Imathia.

In the industrial area of Plati until the mid '90s were working over 3,000 workers from Plati, Veria and Thessaloniki. But after the economic crisis of 2002 and 2003 many of the factories based in the industrial zone of Plati have been closed. Today there are only 3 factories, 2 of them are having a national importance. One is the sugar factory EBZ and the other belongs to Nestle.

In Plati,  the center of the municipality - there are about 2500 people. Plati has a frequent communication with Athens and Thessaloniki by train. The visitor can reach Plati by train or car. Also last years there are discussions about the military airport of Plati to become civil airport. The airport is about 2 kilometers from Plati.

A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Platy is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
