Vila Franca de Xira

Vila Franca de Xira is a municipality in Portugal with a total area of 317.7 square kilometers and a total population of 133,224 inhabitants. The density of the region is 419 inhabitants per square kilometers. It is situated on the west bank of the River Tagus, just 32 kilometers to the north east of the Portuguese capital Lisbon. The town has become a centre for sports related activities. It is mostly famous for its bull running festivals in July and October. The bulls are raised in the salty marshlands of the Ribatejo. A number of brightly colored bullfighting costumes are kept on display in the ethnographic museum on Praca de Touros. The centre also stages typical bullfighting spectacles in its outdoor bullring.
The town has become a centre of industry, sports, administration and culture. It is beautiful place and is in the phase of modern development.
