Vilhelmina

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Vilhelmina is a municipality in Vasterbotten County located in northern Sweden. With an area of 8120 square kilometers it is Sweden's seventh largest, but has a population density of only 1 inhabitant per square kilometer. The population was 7,422 according to 2005 census. The seat is in the town Vilhelmina. In 1804, the parish of Volgsjo was renamed Vilhelmina, in honour of Queen Frederica Dorothea Wilhelmina of Sweden. The town was a parish for centuries and got municipal rights in 1917. This town came to be a church town around 1900, with a church and small cabins. The people traveled long distances to attend the church and stayed in cabins. Every July, the town holds a festival called Hembygdsdagarna Vilhelmina.

In addition to popular and folk music performances, tradition holds an important place. Each year, local engaged couple is selected to get married during the festival. The bride and groom, lead a parade of fiddlers through the town to the church where the marriage is performed in front of all who wish to attend. It is scarcely populated due to its inhospitable conditions and cold climate, but is superb for those who like wildlife and untouched nature. The place enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers. One can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
