Kopanaki

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, to the west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean, including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Kopanaki is a small but scenic Greek town in Messenia which lies in the south western corner of Peloponnese. It is the seat of the municipality Aetos. It is famous for its lively sunday market, where local producers sell livestock, clothing, fresh fruit and vegetables. Kopanaki used to be for the local people synonymous with the word marketplace.

The ruins of a very ancient dwelling can be seen in the village. The findings from the ruins are in the Benaki Archeological Museum in Kalamata.During the Second World War, Kopanaki was one of the first places where the Greeks began an organised resistance against the Nazi invaders. Agriculture, specifically olive farming, is the main economic activity in the village. Raising sheep and goats has also been a traditional form of economic activity for villagers. Lack of economic opportunities has led to emigration from the town, mainly to larger Greek cities such as Kalamata, Patras and Athens. Messenia is a prefecture in the Peloponnese, a region of Greece.

Messenia is bounded on the east by Mount Taygetus, on the north by the river Neda and the Arcadian Mountains, on the south and west by the sea. Messenia is the great plain, consisting of two distinct portions, watered by the river Pamisus and its affluents. Kopanaki is a small town. It is surrounded by various mountains. It is famous for its scenic beauty. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Europe, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
