Kryoneri, Attica

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea.

Kryoneri is one of the exclusive tourist destinations located in Europe. It is a community of the Greek prefecture of Attica and also a rather exclusive suburb of Athens. The area around Kryoneri has farmlands in the central and the southern parts and mountains further north. Housing developments of Athens did not affect this municipality a lot but industrial buildings lie further east.

Luxury houses and villas arrived in mid 1990s and housing developments have accelerated in the last few years making this previously rural area to an upper-middle class suburb. Kryoneri is located to the north of Athens, southeast of Thiva and northwest of Agios Stefanos.

Recent investments attracted by the climate, soil, and altitude combination have transformed the Kryoneri area, making it one of Argolis most important regions. Even though Kryoneri meant the partial loss of its tourist profile due to urbanization, some features of its past times of splendor still remain, with hotels and hostelries that are swarmed by thousands of visitors each year.
