Korydallos
Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. physically and geologically. Europe is in the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, which lies in west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the worlds second smallest continent in terms of area and third largest continent in population after Asia and Africa.
Korydallos is a municipality which belongs to Piraeus Prefecture, Greece in the western suburbs of Athens. It is the home of the Korydallos prisons. It sits on a mountain in the west named Aegaleo. It is located to the west of Athens, north of Piraeus and south of GR8 Avenue. Its population in 2001 was 67,456 and covered an area of 4.32 square kilometers. Korydallos population density is 15,600 per square kilometers with an elevation of 30 meters above sea level.
The place was founded in the ancient times. It was one of the 100 municipalities in ancient Attica. In the end of the 6th century BC, Theophilos Corydalleus from 1563 to 1646 was a philosopher who lived in Corydallos. 200 years later, Emmanouil Koutsikaris named the area that time San skytalodromia, and was renamed Pachy or Pachi or Pahi. In 1923, the village was renamed Korydallos. The population in 1928 was 2,500. In 1934, Korydallos became an autonomous commune until 1946 when it became a municipality and a city. The city is now having a population of 60,000.
Korydallos has schools, lyceums or middle schools, gymnasia or high schools, churches, banks, a post office and a squares. The international award winning film Spirtokouto was folmed in Korydallos in 2003. Korydallos also has two soccer teams named Proodeftiki with its own stadium at Grigoriou Lambraki street and Aetos Korydallou which Aetos means eagle in english. As it is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Europe, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
