Ostersund

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Ostersund is a municipality in the middle of Sweden where the city Ostersund is the seat and the municipality has population of 58,428. Ostersund is also the provincial capital of County of Jamtland. Thus, the province’s County Governor resides in the city.

An international, though small, airport is located on Froson approximately 10 kilometers from the city center. The city hosts local newspapers which are distributed throughout Jamtland, Ostersundsposten and Lanstidningen. Ostersund is the only city in the province and it is located on the shore of the fifth largest lake in Sweden, Storsjon.

Historically, Froson was the main population center in Jamtland but when the city of Ostersund was founded in 1786, Froson gradually lost its predominant role as administrative and mercantile center. The city of Ostersund was given its charter by King Gustav III of Sweden.

Ostersund is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
