Varmdo

Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.

Varmdo municipality is one of the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destinations that is located in Europe. Varmdo municipality is a Swedish municipality in Stockholm County in central Sweden. It is named after the main islands Varmdon, of 180 square kilometers in size. The municipal seat is located in the town Gustavsberg with 10,000 inhabitants, situated on the mainland, at an elevation of 37 meters.

The name Varmdo can be traced to the 14th century, but it is not clear what it means. The area has however been inhabited longer than that, probably from the stone age where from remains are found. The people lived on fishing and the hunting of seals and sea birds. With the municipal reform in the 1970's, Varmdo adopted the coat of arms of Gustavsberg, with two porcelain ovens.

The industry of the municipality was dominated by the porcelain factory, established in the 1820's. Around the year 1900, thousand people were employed there, making it one of the largest working places in Sweden. During the summer the population of the municipality was more than doubles due to the large number of tourists and vacation houses.

Varmdo is more easily accessible by water than by land. The boat service, Waxholmsbolaget offers numerous routes to various islands in the Varmdo archipelago. By land, the major road is the county road 222, a motorway from Stockholm. Bus connections have improved significantly since the addition of several routes from 22 August 2005.

Varmdo, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited places. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
