Vetlanda is one of the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destinations that is located in Europe. It is a municipality in Jonkoping County, in southern Sweden where the town Vetlanda is the seat. Its population is 12,000 and has an area of 1,509 square kilometers with a density of 17.5 per square kilometers.

Vetlanda municipality is the largest municipality in Jonkping County. It borders Eksj municipality and the town of Mariannelund in the north, Vaxj municipality in the south, savsjo municipality with Malilla in the west and east respectively. The history of Vetland goes back to at least the medieval age when it was the seat for the regional assembly called ting.

According to the imaginations of Petter Rudebeck 1660 to1710, Vetlanda was before that known as Vitala, and the center of a mythological kingdom. However, all later archeological research have failed in finding any evidence of it. But the myth was popular during the 18th and 19th century, which displays in the naming of several companies and locations around the municipality. The municipality is situated on the Smalandian highlands.

Manufacturing is large in Vetlanda, besides wood industries there is also a strong metal industries and other factories. Vetlanda boasts successful teams in bandy Vetlanda and in motorcycle speedway. Vetlanda is also said to be as the town of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times.
