Europe is one of the five inhabited traditional continents of the Earth. Physically and geologically, Europe is the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, west of Asia. Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and to the southeast by the waterways adjoining the Mediterranean to and including the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. On the east, Europe is divided from Asia by the water divide of the Ural Mountains and by the Caspian Sea. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent in terms of area and third-largest continent after Asia and Africa in population.
Nacka municipality is a Swedish municipality in central Sweden. It is situated just east of the capital Stockholm and is considered a part of Greater Stockholm. Nacka is situated close to the populated Stockholm area as well as bordering to Stockholm archipelago. The municipality includes the western end of the island of Varmdon. The parish Nacka received its charter in 1949, making it one of the youngest cities of Sweden. After the municipal reform in 1971 to 1974, the town Nacka is considered a part of the Stockholm urban area and not an independent town. The parish of Nacka is still valid however, and the seat is counted to be located there. The area has been populated at least from the Iron Age, in 500 Before Christ. During the Viking Age the area has been estimated to have been populated by 100 people. They were living by farming and fishing.
The municipality has been expanding in recent times and has a continuous population increase since the 1960's, almost doubling the population. Today it is the third largest municipality in Metropolitan Stockholm, after Stockholm City and Huddinge. Nacka became the location of an experiment in psychiatry in the 1970's, initiated by psychiatrist Bengt Bengtsson. It allowed the inhabitants a local access to psychotherapeutic methods for preventive purposes. The role model was the Community Mental Health system developed in the U.S. The system has since been implemented in other municipalities. The industry in Nacka is mainly of service nature. Nacka has an extensive commuting traffic to Stockholm City and few major companies are located in Nacka itself.
Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Nacka enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
