Born at a kitchen table, Umbriacooks4u is a recipe for success

FONTANABELLA, PERUGIA -- Some of the best ideas are born around a kitchen table, and Umbriacooks4u is one of them. The venture between longtime friends Nonie and Tita has proved itself a recipe for success since the two concocted a business offering cooking lessons and private dinners at the turn of the 21st century.

Nonie, a native New Yorker who enjoys entertaining, and Tita, a native of Umbria who loves to cook, have shared many a meal with family and friends since meeting at the at the University of Perugia in 1974.

What they offer their cooking students at Umbriacooks4u is unique, giving visitors to Central Italy’s “green heart” the possibility to learn regional Italian cooking from the perspectives and skills of an American and Italian

They give their clientele choices almost as extensive as their menus. Clients can take cooking lessons with Nonie and Tita, and sit down to the meal they have prepared together.

Parents can let their children take cooking lessons with Nonie and Tita and join them for a meal later.

Clients can arrange for Nonie and Tita to prepare a private dinner for groups as large as twelve.

Cooking students have the choice of gathering in Tita’s ancestral home at Fontanabella, in the countryside surrounding Perugia, or they can arrange for Nonie and Tita to bring a pizza-making party, a cooking lesson or a dinner party to rented villas or condos.

During Perugia’s annual summer Jazz Festival and fall Chocolate Festival, Nonie and Tita often choose to offer gatherings at Nonie’s home in the city.

Whatever their clients choose, Nonie and Tita guarantee them a delicious meal prepared with the freshest and highest quality ingredients and served with a selection of local wines that complement courses from appetizers through dessert. They guarantee a warm, relaxed and family atmosphere, highlighted by lively conversation, and a colorful lesson or two in local culinary custom.
