Cyprus: The Cross of Cultures

Heir to a legendary and exotic history, on its lands, the island of Cyprus condenses the influence of three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. Its people, its lands, its customs, its food, everything is ready to be appreciated with bewilderment. Owners of a receptive and affable character, Cypriots seem to enjoy the visit of foreigners. A land of contrasts in its landscapes and owners of a historical cultural wealth, the Greek and Turkish heritage are felt in its traditions with a particular style. Northern Cyprus is a republic only recognized by Turkey. It occupies, in the west, a third part of the island.

Cyprus is located in the eastern border of the Mediterranean Sea and is practically at the same distance from both Europe and Asia, having the African coast of Egypt only at 380 km. Crossing the sea, it finds near the coasts of Greece to the west, Turkey to the north, Syria and Lebanon to the east, and Israel and Egypt to the south. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily and Sardinia, and it extends 240 km. from east to west and 96 km from north to south. The country is divided in the capital region, Nicosia, and the main cities of large population such as Limasol, Larnaka, Pafor, Kyrenia, and Famagusta.
